But over the weekend, as news transpired of the death of a third French soldier, authorities divulged some details of the operation.

Russia to assist Vietnam in naval development



Speaking at a press conference after a talk with Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, visiting Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu this morning said Russia would help Vietnam in submarine building and crew training.

“Within this year, the two countries’ common effort is to open a new page in the history of development of Vietnam’s navy,” Shoigu, who started his visit to Vietnam on March 4, said.

Russia will help Vietnam train crews and build new naval ships. This is an important part in the cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries, Shoigu said.

China claims evidence of Japan’s close-range surveillance over navyAccording to the Chinese government-backed Xinhua news agency, a spokesman for the country’s military has stated that they have “adequate” evidence of Japanese warships and aircrafts engaging in close-range “monitoring and surveillance” over China’s navy. Geng Yansheng, with the Ministry of National Defense, said that China retains its right to take “relevant measures.” There was no mention of the fact that Japan may be carrying out the monitoring because China’s military ships were found to have used weapons-targeting radar in January.

Reuters) - Blue Angels pilot Dave Tickle said he is focused on practicing maneuvers for an upcoming show in California instead of worrying about how federal spending cuts will threaten performances this year by the U.S. Navy's renowned flight demonstration squadron.
