The Pentagon on Thursday restructured the U.S. Army's Ground Combat Vehicle program, saying budget pressures and technical issues had prompted it to delay the multibillion-dollar program by six months and scrap plans to develop prototype vehicles.
The new approach requires the Army to pick just one winning bidder to develop and build the new infantry fighting vehicle after a full and open competition, according to a memo signed by the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer, Frank Kendall. A copy of the memo was obtained by Reuters.

Sex Crimes Continue to Plague the US Military

A culture of fear, intimidation and entitlement allows sexual predators at all levels and branches of the armed services free access to military women (and men), who often have little recourse.
Do sexual predators have free reign in the US Armed Forces? For decades both men and women in our military have been sexually assaulted. Those crimes were usually concealed and have essentially gone unpunished, in large part, because of a long-standing cover up that includes the military police, the military justice system and the leadership in our armed forces. In an interview with Natalie Morales of NBC News on September 27, 2012, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta admitted the military had a habit of "sweeping these issues under the rug."

The US Military’s suicide rate grew a startling 15 percent in 2012. The Pentagon, which has put great effort into lowering military suicide rates, has acknowledged that battle casualties are no longer the primary reason for soldiers’ deaths.
Modern US warfare is Internet-centric and relies heavily on drones and robots, which has helped bring combat losses to historic lows; suicide now accounts for more deaths of US soldiers than battlefield conflict.

Indian Military Diversifying:Weapons&Technology

Despite problems with the Vikramaditya and Moscow’s failure to win several recent Indian tenders, the military and technical cooperation between Russia and India can rather be called more successful than disappointing.

In November, some newspapers reported that Moscow had lost its fourth Indian tender in a row, this time to supply Il-76KMI refuelling planes. The Indian Defence Ministry opted for the European A-330MRTT. Earlier the Russian multi-purpose MiG-35 fighter, the Mi-28NE helicopter gunship and the heavy transport helicopter Mi-26T2 lost tenders to the French and twice to the Americans.

Fumbling soft state: Forget Pakistan, for South Asian countries India is fair game

When  Swedish economist Gunnar Myrdal coined the phrase "soft state" in the early 1960s, he did have countries such as India in mind.
What he was speaking of was states that had low expectations from its citizens.
Today, the phrase is used to refer to countries like India in a different way - as states which, despite their size and power, are unable to exercise the influence that should by right be theirs.

"We are still dealing with a fluid and dangerous situation where a part of the terrorist threat has been eliminated in one part of the site, but there still remains a threat in another part," British Prime Minister David Cameron told his parliament.

Pakistan to release all Afghan Taliban detainees: minister

ABU DHABI (Reuters) - Pakistan plans to release all Afghan Taliban prisoners still in its detention, including the group's former second-in-command, an official said on Friday, the clearest signal yet that it backs reconciliation efforts.
"The remaining detainees, we are coordinating, and they will be released subsequently," Jalil Jilani, Pakistan's foreign secretary, said at a news conference in Abu Dhabi.
Asked if the former Taliban number 2 Mullah Baradar would be among those to be released, he said: "The aim is to release all," without elaborating further.

Pentagon revamps approach to U.S. Army's next combat vehicle

US Military suicides continue to climb, reaching record in 2012

The US Military’s suicide rate grew a startling 15 percent in 2012. The Pentagon, which has put great effort into lowering military suicide rates, has acknowledged that battle casualties are no longer the primary reason for soldiers’ deaths.
Modern US warfare is Internet-centric and relies heavily on drones and robots, which has helped bring combat losses to historic lows; suicide now accounts for more deaths of US soldiers than battlefield conflict.

US Army aviation facing 'exciting, uncertain future'

The current fiscal environment poses significant challenges for Army aviation, as well as the rest of the Army and the Defense Department, said Lt. Gen. James O. Barclay III, deputy chief of staff, G-8.

Looming budget battles, likelihood of more continuing resolutions, the coming debt ceiling debate, a possibility of sequestration, lack of a 2013 budget and an already tight budget were some of the challenges Barclay described during a four-person panel discussion dubbed "View from the E-Ring" at the Association of the U.S. Army's Aviation Symposium in National Harbor."

After the humiliating defeat in the 1971 war, Pakistan has been increasing its military strength at a rapid pace. Today both countries are nuclear armed and their armies are in an eyeball-to-eyeball situation at many places on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

STATE OF TERROR:PAKISTAN SUPPORTS TERRORISM EVIDENCE LIST!

1)State of TerrorWhy Obama should blacklist Pakistan -- not just the Haqqanis.

source:

In September 2011, Adm. Mike Mullen, then the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, astonished the American public when he declared at a congressional hearing that the network of Jalaluddin Haqqani was a "virtual arm" of Pakistan's top spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence directorate. Pakistanis were surprised, as Mullen had been one of the most outspoken defenders of Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies and their efforts to combat Islamist terrorists within Pakistan. Since Mullen's head-turning testimony, pressure has continued to mount on the Obama administration, forcing it take a stronger position on Pakistan's intransigent support for one of the most lethal organizations killing Americans and allied forces in Afghanistan.

Future Weapon System for Indian Armed Forces:Weapons&Technology

P8i Poseidon

Boeing proposed the P-8I, a customized export variant of the P-8A, to the Indian Navy. In 2009, the Ministry of Defence of India signed an agreement with Boeing for the supply of eight P-8I Poseidons at a total cost of US$2.1 billion. These aircraft would replace Indian Navy's aging Tupolev Tu-142M maritime surveillance turboprops. Each aircraft will cost about US$220 million. The deal not only made India the first international customer of the P-8, but also marked Boeing's first military sale to India.

Russia prepares for future wars!

The growing military potential of Japan and China - and continuing territorial disputes over the Kuril island chain and Arctic Shelf - is causing Russia to increase spending on her naval nuclear deterrent and blue-water forces.

In November 2011 the Russian Ministry of Defence firmed up orders for four Project 955A Borey-A strategic missile underwater cruisers (submarines) and five Project 885M Yasen-M cruise-missile submarines. In early 2012 decisions were made to refit and modernization the Project 1144 nuclear powered cruisers and Project 949A cruise-missile submarines. By rough estimates, these commitments combined amount to US$ 10 billion.

Top Japan General Calls for Beefed-Up Defenses

When a Japanese coast guard cutter spotted a small Chinese aircraft flying above disputed East China Sea islands in December, Japan's air force scrambled eight F-15 fighter jets, but they reached the scene only after the intruder had left. Japan's radar or surveillance planes had missed the low-flying aircraft entering what the nation considers its airspace, causing a delay in scrambling.

World War in Asia?

With the Asia Pivot, the US wants to encircle China, and supplies old and new allies with missiles aimed at its biggest rival. An amped up arms race means cash flow for the world’s biggest death dealer. If all these Asian nations buy as many American fighter planes as Taiwan, US armament workers can knock down a few more Bud Lites, and take their wives and kiddies to Ruby Tuesday twice a week even.

Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Beijing and Tokyo are inching closer to military confrontation over a group of islands in the East China Sea after China yesterday sent two J-10 fighter jets to monitor Japanese military planes near the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands.
